Nick Mohammed plays Nate on the Apple TV+ show Ted Lasso, and Vulture interviewed him about his character's current arc on the show.

The character of Nate has gone from a punching bag of a kit manager to a coach, making friends, feeling useful and improving his confidence along the way. But over the past couple of episodes, a cruel streak has emerged - this week, Nate obsessed about his social media image, chewed out an undeserving team member, and was cruel to the new equipment manager.

Nick talked to Vulture about Nate's journey this season, which is very different than his uplifting turn last season. He's developed an ego, but is still hurt and frustrated by things he can't control, like his dad's opinion of him, so he's taking it out on other people on the team.

He points out that this breaks the pattern the show has established so far - usually people who interact with Ted end up being better people, but Nate is detouring from that route.

Nick also emphasizes that Nate getting the table he was after a few episodes ago was good, in that he was standing up for himself, but he took the wrong lesson from that victory, and things have snowballed from there. He says that a little hint of cruelty has been embedded in the character since that roast in S1.

He says that episode 12 is "very challenging", and he's a little worried about what the audience will think.
