I finished Woman at Point Zero for August and I thought it was really good.
I own Queenie and read it last year…it was okay…But also really annoying. It felt like nothing was resolved. There was just so many uncomfortable moments lol. And her last date near the end?? Jfc. I understand her but she was seriously so fucking frustrating. I might unhaul because I don’t think I’ll ever read again and I need shelf space lol.
Im choosing Witches Steeped in Gold! It’s a Jamaican inspired fantasy and I own a physical copy from Fairyloot.
I remember being intrigued by The Confessions of Frannie Langton when it came out, so that is my pick for this month.
I really enjoyed my pick for last month - I chose The Golden Chariot by Salwa Bakr which is a short story collection set in a women's prison. It explored issue of gender and class in Egyptian society.
Most of my family is Jamaican but I'm ashamed to say that I haven't read enough Jamaican literature. Loved Small Island though and anything else by Andrea Levy 👌
I just finished my pick for Egypt with 30 minutes to go till midnight 😂😂 (I read „in the Spiders room“, a novel about a gay man in modern Egypt. It had it‘s shortcomings but was a great read nonetheless)
