This is why we need stronger finance, budgeting, money management education in high school. The amount of people I knew in uni in deep debt because none of us fully understood credit cards at 18 and having all these credit card companies set up signing booths on campus was astounding. Luckily I was cheap and scared and managed to avoid bad financial decisions but to this day, I don’t fully understand finances (mortgage, stock market etc). I try researching but get overwhelmed. I had a good economics teacher in high school that taught us some stuff that helped just live a really conservative lifestyle when it comes to money. But he was the exception. They really set us up to fail when we reach adulthood.

It's baffling to me that people here are usually all about how society sets us up for failure, but all of a sudden we're getting Republican with "personal responsibility" and "just make better choices" as the be all, end all?

She did have access to more money than most, yes, but she can very easily have gotten the same terrible messages about money and poor education about financial literacy as everyone else.

You said it more succinctly.

She started blowing it as soon as she turned 18? I think that indicates a problem with the way she was raised to think about money tbh.

I know someone who is one of the beneficiaries of a big trust but he had access to a part of it at 25, to another at 30 and will receive the final part until 40, I think that’s the best way to administrate a trust for your lineage

Now that’s really clever. We are all dumb when we’re young.

A friend of mine used to go to one every couple of months to hear about how her dream man was coming. She charged about $60 a session.
Of course the dream man, as described in some detail, never came…my friend finally settled for a really bad choice instead

I have friends who waste money on a monthly basis on astrologers, reiki masters and all types of hippie bullshit.

At this point I think they have some sort of fetish for being absolute fools tbh.

No but I've seen birth chart readers charging hundreds of dollars a session and I feel like they are 2021's scam psychics.

Yikes! I cant imagine having all that money and blowing it so young only to have next to nothing to show for it. My parents were all about "SAVE YO MONEY"

But it is also crazy that you dont learn the basics while in high school and should be even more mandatory for child actors.
