I really don't like it when shelters waive the fees. While I understand over crowding, the practice is dangerous and often leads people to pick up the animals for nefarious means. Fees are in place of course for the shelter and basic care, but it's also there to discourage adopting for criminal acts.

Fighting, hunting and ‘security’ mainly. The bigger issue is people who can’t afford to care for a dog, particularly one with health or behavioural issues, or haven’t thought adoption through properly and end up neglecting or dumping the dog again.

Oh yes, that's a very important point that I forgot to articulate, about those who adopt but can't afford to properly care for the animal.

We were planning to adopt another cat after my mom's surgery. That is delayed because Covid. :( So,we don't know when we get a kitten.

all of our cats are shelter cats; our dogs aren't and we really wish we had but i love them so much.

we adopted two cats last year during lockdown and we actually just adopted another. they're all special needs and we just found out the youngest probably has a messed up liver. i'm honestly just happy we were able to get her and afford her vet bills.

by the way, if you ever come across a cat in a shelter with CH (cerebellar hypoplasia), don't be too worried about that. they can't really walk straight, but they're not in pain or anything. two of the cats we adopted have it; one has it much worse than the other and we have to help him pee and poop (he as to lay on his side as he uses the bathroom) and the other cat barely has it in comparison to him lol. i love them so much.

idk how to link anymore, so here's a pic of our babies https://ibb.co/g6p0fNz

They're perfect! I really want to adopt a black cat like Leo when I have the means to.

How about a pic of one of my girls, inexplicably lying between the wheels of our bikes. I swear cats just try to find the strangest places to sleep.

I have 2 senior kitties, both shelter adopted. My youngest I adopted at 7, she was abandoned by her original owners and spent time as a stray, then the last person who adopted her spent 2 weeks with her and decided they didn't like her- she is literally one of the best cats I have ever had.
