I just hope the internet isn’t mean as fuck to this guy like they were to Geoffrey Owens.

Is Degrassi streaming anywhere? Like the older eps

that sounds familiar but I forget where he worked!

other Canadian TV stars turned servers:
-Ashley from Degrassi worked at Jack Astor's Dundas Square
-Busy from Ready or Not worked at Pickle Barrel Yorkdale
(my knowledge is like 5+ years old, so they probably moved on)

oh wow...that's so weird to hear. I hope they were able to at least get an education or training for something.

This is cute and I'm happy he's *a good sport about it. I just found out the entire series is on youtube and I've been meaning to start a proper binge.

I was just talking to someone at work yesterday about OG Degrassi and how some of those stories would never be on a TV show (let alone a show for teens) today (like when one of the twins had an abortion). In some ways TV has progressed - like with LGBTQI issues and whatnot, and in others it’s gone backwards.

I think all of us at a certain age remember how Manny’s abortion couldn’t air in the US. I was well into my twenties when I finally got to see it.

I don’t think it’s the show to blame for a lot of that so much as the channels Degrassi airs on

Oh wow, I didn’t even know there was an abortion story in the TNG series - I watched a couple of seasons but I was way too old for it so I just drifted away from it.

Nowadays when shows do teen pregnancy there’s always an episode where they toy with the idea of abortion,’then decide to have the baby, then depending on how the writers want the story to go they either become a teen Mum or have a miscarriage and problem solved.

I could be totally wrong because it’s been a decade since I watched it but I’m pretty sure the abortion episode was the entirety of Manny’s pregnancy storyline…I think it was all self contained so it wasn’t like “whatever happened to that fetus…?” but it was still wild how prudish America was about it!!!

The first day I moved to downtown Toronto from the burbs, Emma from Degrassi held the door for me at Shoppers Drug Mart. 😂 Over the years I saw a lot of the Degrassi cast in line at TIFF.

I saw Paige at the movies maybe a decade ago, that's been my only Degrassi spotting

I was walking down Church and Wellesley and saw Marco, then years after that I saw Riley Stavros getting on a the subway at Woodbine as I was getting off. I thought living in Toronto I was gonna get a lot more sightings tbh!

The weirdest is the time about ten years ago during TIFF, I was walking down TVs street and was passed by a huge group of people who were being kind of loud and it wasn’t until I made eye contact with one of them that I realized he was Eli…and he was walking with the whole current cast.

Nobody paid them any attention and then less than half an hour later I heard screaming and saw the whole cast on stage in front of a huge crowd of fans. 😂

Died at the way they walked to the event with no security only to cause pandemonium once they arrived!
