Thoughts? Overall, I think they handled it quite well, coming back with a police comedy in the wake of heightened visibility of BLM and defund the police, and didn't gloss over it, at least.
i agree, it was the right move by them to address BLM/defund the police, and i like that they didn’t try to resolve it in one episode and go back to pretending everything’s hunky dory and cops are good again. i’m interested to see how it plays out in the rest of the season.
I didn't even know it was back on! I'm very interested to see how they frame defunding and blm issues. They've done a pretty good job with other issues in the past like racism, sexism and sexual harassment. so I don't feel nervous about it like I would with other shows.
I haven't watched but did catch the AV club reviews that were detailed and wish *all* of them left instead of just [Redacted] to be detectives as a unit.
I do think they have been trying to be as thoughtful as possible tho, which I appreciate, but I'm still not sure if I can watch/love it anymore.
Yeah, I get that. I don’t envy them having to find a balance in tone. I suppose it’s more interesting and allows them to not brush things under the rug by keeping them cops, but I’d rather they just all worked somewhere else - I don’t even care if the show would explain it, just have them shelving books at a library or something, idc
The first episode was very heavy. Not only BLM but also covid wise. I know as a police show they needed to address it but it’s a comedy show. I’m glad they showed it but the second episode felt much more typical B99.
