why can't artists hire and pay for their own mental health services instead of expecting the label to? i only make 55k a year and i am expected to pay for my therapy. if you're making hundreds of thousands (or more) you can surely invest some of that back into your mental health, right?
Only a tiny percentage of recording artists or creative workers in the recording industry make that kind of money. BUT Iggy talking about herself or Lizzo or others at their level getting free care is a fucking joke and insult.
Mte if the labels are in charge of hiring the MHPs, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an unprecedented amount of artists in conservatorship-type situations or being blackmailed to work for fear of having their mental health issues or even just confided thoughts exposed to the public. Even tho it’s illegal, nothing is truly stricken from the record in the court of public opinion. I don’t think I’d ever fully trust that MHP with my secrets/fears/dreams/etc. knowing they were, in effect, another employee primarily there protecting the interests of the label.
Exactly. That could possibly become another HR type of scenario wherein the HR is always on the side of the company and not you. Latest example is the Blizzard issue. It’s sickening.
