I was thinking the same thing but even then, Whitney wasn't writing her hits. Mariah doesn't really have a peer that was doing what she was doing in her time and genre of music at the same level of success. That's what makes her outstanding.

While I'd love to be offended on Mariah's behalf, she's worked with him before on a remix to Touch My Body (ew and yikes) and even had him on a track as late as 2014 (though the song itself had been recorded years before for another project). For context, Gaga got raked over the coals for working with him just a year earlier, so there's no claiming that it was a ~different time and no one knew. She brought him out to perform with her for a Christmas special in 2016!

And I say all this as a huge Mariah fan!

Now if she comes out and says all that was label pressure, then fine but she's done more to put her and Kelly's name in the same sentence than her ex has at this point. And this isn't me "cancelling" her, it's just absurd to act like she's above being put alongside an abuser that she has openly worked with multiple times before.
