Lucasfilm Hires Youtuber Who Deepfaked Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian

Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light and Magic has hired YouTuber Shamook.

This comes after Shamook created a viral video with nearly 2 million views that improves the VFX used to de-age Luke Skywalker in ‘The Mandalorian’ using deepfake technology.

I was just watching the Jurassic Park episode from Netflix's The Movies That Made Us and it was pretty cool how they made everything work

I watched it yesterday too. That one guy was wild to just go behind his boss's back, but he knew he could do it---it's also kinda admirable.

Loved seeing the animatronic T-Rex too.

LOL, everything about that guy's personality rubbed me entirely the wrong way. BUT I'm glad he had that give no fucks attitude because as talented as Phil Tippet is, Jurassic Park would have ended up a mediocre footnote in cinema with stop-motion instead of the revolutionary and iconic film it became because of the CGI.

I want them to just hire another actor to play younger Luke going forward.

I HATE DEEPFAKES

it's amazing but it's horrible

even if they were somehow JUST relegated to movies/tv and never used for real life/political applications it would still be a goldmine of exploitation

Two or three years ago it was "Won't be for another ten years until it's believable, and only with expensive gadgets/programs" and now it's in plenty of apps, for free.

We already have plenty of issues with not trusting media and entertainment, let's add another.
