It's apparently the first a24 movie to do so.

You can watch ZOLA early at home:

Since we can't have nice things, A24 will probably get bought by Disney, lets be real.

I was really looking forward to Zola, but ended up being underwhelmed, so I hope that The Green Knight delivers! I reserved tickets earlier today. I liked the director's style a lot on A Ghost Story.

Unpopular opinion, I guess, but I would have picked several other A24 films over Uncut Gems for the Criterion Collection. Not that it was bad or anything, but I never understood the film twitter hype. I do think the Safdies are talented, and I hope at some point they make a movie I can appreciate more.

Funny enough, I was just thinking that Zola could've benefitted from a Safdie brothers type treatment because the original story was so manic and wild and that was kind of lost.

I liked the style- it didnโ€™t need to be chaotic/safdie-like because it was inherently. I felt the script maybe needed a couple more scenes though. More Stefanie being shitty and more of Zola being a great character.

I def didn't get that from the movie; I thought the acting was good but I didn't think the film itself had enough perspective on either character. Zola mostly gets to react to things. Stefanie is kind of the villain, but she's also being trafficked and has little agency. It was one of those things where it was fine when I was watching it but as soon as I started thinking about it it started to fall apart for me.
