I don't really have a fave.

I had been watching those Divergent movies on Tubi and barely made it through the 2nd one. I probably won't watch the 3rd. Shailene/her character was so milquetoast in them. Never read the books, but saw some comment in that youtube video where it basically sums up that her character is special just because she is a normal, well rounded human? What garbage lol.

Also I feel like as a collective, we're supposed to think Shailene's a decent actress, but i'm like where? She's not compelling at all. She was bad in these Divergent films, meh in BLL, boring in those two teen drama films. Never watched that show she was on, but it can't have been that good either.

I watched them for the first time recently (read the books ages ago) and same, could barely get through the second one. I liked the actor well enough, I thought the writing was mostly the problem. In the books the lead's personality has flaws but in the films she's such a Mary Sue, it's painful.

lol i also just watched them on tubi for the first time. i didn't think i'd finish but i wanted to see where they went. where they went was BIZARRE. but i guess the mythology of it was kinda weird in the first place

and the guy is cute to me. but they looked weird together and she must have pissed off an influential hairdresser. no comment on her acting

ever since I learned that the author of Divergent wrote the first book in a couple weeks while home from college... everything clicked into place lol. like if there's anything you can write quickly and *well*, it's not going to be something with complex worldbuilding or mythology lmao

The whole genre was over saturated for a while. Not to mention I feel like we are living in some pre-dystopian universe now.

i fell off after the 2nd hunger games movie

pretty embarrassing they didn't even do the last divergent movie. only HP could get away with a 2-part movie finale. i remember mostly everyone being annoyed at twilight/hunger games/divergent stretching out the last movies.

Even tho the casting (overall, not just JenLaw) sucked a little bit, I absolutely loved The Hunger Games movies. Fucking CHILLS when Katniss does the three-finger salute to the camera after Rue is killed & you see people around the country doing it along with her. It had a lot of powerful moments for something that's supposedly a teen film.

I watched them again recently and they held up. One of the few adaptations where I felt the films really did the books justice, the writing anyway. There are some very difficult themes that are still very valid today.

I only read the Hunger Games and loved them. (And saw the movies). I tried to read Divergent, but the world didn’t make sense to me. They sort everyone by personality and being divergent is bad…but wouldn’t a lot of people be divergent…? Lol. I read Legend by Marie Lu and it had some interesting stuff but the worldbuilding fell a bit flat for me too and I didn’t end up continuing.

Unfortunately, the world building that explains why doesn’t happen until relatively later in the books - which on the one hand it’s a mystery to unravel, but on the other it’s a weird concept to just have to take on faith for so much of the run time

Ohhh okay. Well at least they explain it! But yeah I couldn’t get past it because I thought it was too strange. Like hogwarts houses but in a dystopian country lol.

re divergent: the names of the factions were a little too silly for me. i know that's a fine line to walk when you're making YA but it was hard for me to buy into it from the jump. and the two smart factions and the two nice factions had some overlap that confused me

and what they reveal is also kinda underwhelming, if you ask me. i guess it just didn't work for me
