Never Have I Ever’s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan will star in The Netherfield Girls, a fresh and funny contemporary adaptation of Pride & Prejudice (think Easy A or 10 Things I Hate About You).

June 2, 2021 Earlier this month, Netflix announced a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice entitled The Netherfield Girls which is billed as an Easy A style adaptation (OP note: and hopefully also in the vein of Clueless?). The script was written by Becca Gleason (Summer '03), who will also direct, and the film will star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Lizzie Bennet.
Today, Netflix also released the first stills from the Dakota Johnson-led adaptation of Persuasion. To the surprise of this OP, they confirm the movie is not a modern adaptation but is in fact a period piece.

June 14, 2021 There was some confusion as to whether or not this adaptation would be a contemporary one given that it was described as a "modern, witty" take on Austen's final novel. (OP note: I'm now worried that the screenwriters think the book wasn't witty at all? Maybe they're going for something in the style of The Great or Dickinson, but with the releases about Anne being a "headstrong and unconforming" character in this... hm.) It is currently filming in the UK.
For the curious, it seems the Sarah Snook adaptation is not yet filming but will presumably start sometime after season 3 of Succession wraps.
