I follow a historian of acting on Twitter and "the Method" has definitely been bastardized. Or another way of putting it is that the general public only hears about it when it's being mis-used.

No one commenting on this story, including me, would know if an actor is Method or not, UNLESS that actor or someone on the production, tells us. Freeman's being bitchy because that's who he is but it has nothing to do with audience experience.

Of course it doesn't, the audience is not on set everyday. It's like the audience doesn't know that Fincher forces his actors to do 97 takes of the same line, either. Do you think people would stop going to see Fincher movies if they knew he was an egotistical tyrant?

Audiences are clueless about most of the things that go into making a movie. What does that have to do with method actors being assholes?

It doesn't matter whether we would know, or not? He has a right to speak about his own experiences; that doesn't necessarily make him 'bitchy', in this instance.

Well, if the method acting doesn’t actually affect anyone else, I’m not opposed to it.
