Jean Yoon Joins Simu Liu in Speaking Out About Issues During Kim's Convenience

In response to a Globe and Mail article that essentially summed up the situation [see this ONTD entry] as Simu Liu being wrong and ungrateful (though not in those exact words), Jean Yoon, who played Umma on Kim's Convenience, spoke out to amend the record.

A couple quotations from the globe and mail article:

"He makes some valid points and others that amount to impenetrable office politics being aired in public." - idk this just made me angry

"Yet a glance at the credits for Kim’s over its five seasons lists 13 women as writers at various times, contrary to Liu’s suggestion the show lacked “female representation.” Further, the writing credits do indicate diversity - does an Iranian-Canadian not count?" - this is such a white man thing to say.

I hated reading that whole article. Go off people on twitter. He missed the entire point, which isn't a surprise but ffs.

FFS. That is NOT the right type of diversity for a show about the Korean-Canadian experience.

I don't doubt her experiences on this show. Which sucks because she still decided to come out in support of Michelle Latimer.

Whyyyyyyyyyy. Latimer showed her ass the moment she claimed to be part Quebec region Metis. How many mother fucking scandals regarding the non-existent Quebec based "Metis" groups is it going to take for people to STOP believing in their shit. You can google it easily, this is the second link that pops up: https://www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/metis-quebec/

Wow. That article is very “take your breadcrumbs with a smile and be happy we didn’t give you an empty plate!”

And how the fuck are you going to tell the person working on the show that they don’t have all the facts?

Jesus, did the G&M really have a white male writer criticize an Asian man for being ungrateful to have gotten the tiniest bit of representation? Who tf thought that was a good idea?

All of our major newspapers are owned by American republicans now so I'm hardly surprised.
