I remember coming to the ONTD post for the Alejandro music video premiere (didn't comment back then though lol). That period was so fun.

Thankfully they are still very much a thing where I live. There are two within like 6 miles of my house

I remember when the pink one came out and eveeeeeyone was talking about it and her. I hated on it so hard bc it was extra af but looking back she did an amazing job drawing attention to herself and making herself such a huge icon by all that eccentricity. She really spearheaded the avant- guard stuff that took over pop music in the late 00s to early 10s. We are in a different era and that stuff doesn’t really hold up with the current generation but it made for such a great era in pop music then <3

It seems like being so outre so early made multiple re-inventions kind of difficult.

Ngl that's kinda true. Just Dance and Pokerface were just kinda "quirky", then she went pretty much full weird by Bad Romance and it felt like she didn't really have anywhere else to go. I still love those first three albums tho.

I always thought she should have taken the Madonna "Live to Tell" route, when she killed off the Madonna wannabes, and done away with the gimmicks for Born This Way. Her "thing" was that she was always one step ahead of everybody and no one could predict what she would do next, but by the time that album came out, she looked like a parody of herself (to quote Posh Spice) and couldn't keep up anymore.

The message of the album, the rise of Adele at the time, etc was the perfect setup for a major re-invention for her.
