i was listening to the Celebrity Book Club episode about Demi and it was really interesting and heartbreaking. apparently they weren't on speaking terms with their mom for a long time; it must be a very fraught relationship.
Demi's own family of origin was a horror show so it's not a shock her family life now might be a little disordered. her and bruce seem to be really good friends now, though. they all quarantined together.
Oh wow, that's really sad. I also did not know that about Demi's background. Was it similar to Courteney Cox in which her mom was hypercritical of her physical appearance?
Oof. As a person who inherited the worst genes from both parents, I can relate? To this day, I still have a fear of not looking feminine enough, which I’m aware is ridiculous but I can’t help it.
the strength it takes to get to a place like that mentally, wow. I can only imagine the pain the media inflicted upon her growing up in such a spotlight.
yeah....i especially hate it with couples where one partner is supposedly more attractive than the other...comments like "he's too hot for her", it's such shallow bullshit. there's more to a relationship than having a partner who's "hot" (which is completely subjective, anyway)
It’s weird how we all know, logically, that much of our beauty standards are the product of social conditioning but then tear into someone we deem ugly for behaviour we were bending over backwards to defend in a ‘hot’ person last week.
that's why things like "unproblematic white ppl age well" and tearing down bad people for aging/being ugly are still so insidious. like yes you may only be referring to people who deserve it but you're still positioning youth/beauty as an inherent virtue. I have to catch myself on this sometimes since it's just so ingrained in our culture
Wow, if this how tallulah feels, I wonder how rummer (sp?) feels... they are pretty but def look more similar to their dad -which isn't bad. But when your mom is branded as one of the hottest women on the planet by the media...
They had three daughters, Rumer, Scout and Tallulah, and all three were ripped apart for being ugly and not looking like their mother. And the sad thing is I would say Tallulah got it less terrible than her older two sisters.

also: the man she thought was her father wasn't her real father and abandoned her after that came to light.
