one thing i read is that 94% of the first films domestic gross came in the first 45 days. so any backend loss they see would probably be really small. plus box office pro is forecasting between $75 and $125 million domestically, so not too far off what the first one did. im sure that number will increase if more theaters open.

this is probably why paramount isnt doing anything just yet.

Yeah, but now people can just wait 45 days to stream it. The window between theatrical release and rental/stream used to be much longer

Yeah but streaming allows people to watch it at their leisure, and folks are still in the process of getting vaccinations/hesitant to go to a theater so cutting the theatrical release means in a few weeks when people might be inoculated/feel more comfortable they won’t be able to see it in person.

I think the issue is probably that it's going to be a free release on Paramout+ when they could instead charge for each streaming view like has happened with so many other big releases. If you only have to wait 45 days to see it for free, why would anyone pay? And the cut they get for a free streaming release has got to be minuscule.

Can't say I blame them. If they signed on to get a significent amount of backend pay Paramount's decision cuts into their profits and that's something they never signed up for.

Yeah I mean a deal is a deal and it’s rich people asking money from an even richer corporation so team Emily and John.

This makes perfect sense to me. If their cut is based on box office and the company is cutting down the box office potential then I do think that they are owed money.

i'm just here to share that i'm not going to see it

can't krasinski find someone to steal an idea from real fast to make up for the money he'd lose on this?
