I'm really excited about that new Black Keys album that was announced. The song sounds great and really reminiscent of their old stuff. They are covering North Mississippi hill country blues songs, which is my favorite style of blues and they helped me get into it back in the mid 2000s when they made that whole album of songs originally by Junior Kimbrough. I also think it's a great move that they're playing with some of the musicians who originally backed the artists they're covering. It does give me a bit of pause that these are white men covering songs originally by black men, but to their credit, as far as I can tell they have never been reluctant to give credit to the original artists, and for the album where they covered Junior Kimbrough, they got his widow's blessing first so I would hope that they've done something similar here. I also hope that if they tour, they use the opportunity to give a platform to artists like Cedric Burnside, who are still making this style of music. I saw him at a festival a few years ago and he was ( ... )

Your comment got me interested in that type of blues (I’m only familiar with Delta blues). Are Junior Kimbrough and Burnside good places to start?

Yes! I would actually start with Cedric Burnside's grandfather, RL Burnside, rather than Cedric just because he was one of the big names that brought hill country blues to the mainstream. There have been a lot of posthumous releases and it's easy to get overwhelmed, but he released two albums on Fat Possum in the 90s, An Ass Pocket of Whiskey and Mr. Wizard, and both of these are really, really great. Junior Kimbrough has a smaller discography and you really can't go wrong with any of it, but his album All Night Long is excellent and he also has a greatest hits album on Spotify. Cedric Burnside is a drummer turned guitarist and he is absolutely worth checking out if you want to proceed further into the genre ( ... )

Thank you so much for your recommendations! I hadn’t heard of this genre and you were very informative. I played some stuff during my lunch break and yeah I couldn’t help but move lol! It’ll be nice to explore this music over the weekend. Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Chet Hanks needs to be removed from our collective consciousness/the world.

I remember he wanted to change it from Chet Faker, but that didn’t last long. So he’s stuck with a name he doesn’t like!
