Long term care eligibility is one of the things I do at work. It's insane the level of fraud but no one wants to go after it because the most in need would suffer. The corruption of the facilities is unmatched and the care is laughable. A complete reworking of the system would be amazing but will never happen because the rich Republicans like to believe it's just people that didn't work hard enough or have enough money for a nice little retirement community and private insurance.

Keep the poor poor and in poor heath so they die early of multiple morbidity factors so we don't have to pay for care. If they live then they can survive the care but not thrive with care.

The new secretary of health and human services forced nursing homes to take COVID patients while overseeing the Pennsylvania health department. Thousands of people have died in nursing homes there during the pandemic.

The new Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, is from CA and was previously the state's AG during COVID so I don't know what you're talking about.

I schedule in-house ancillary services for skilled care homes. Some of the shit I hear is absolutely crazy. Staff is usually unavailable and typically has no idea what is going on.

One thing we do is dental services. I got a call once from a social services director about a resident whose dentures weren't coming out. When we made an emergency visit to see this person (which we really don't do, we typically work off a schedule and visits are monthly), they found that they had dental implants, not dentures. Staff had legitimately been trying to rip dental implants out of this person's mouth.

It's one of those things, I try real hard not to think about it, because I can't. Even though it's been more than a few years now. But when I do, or something like this sparks it, it's just instant anger all over again. I'm right back in that hallway outside her door. I will never get over that, and that she used the words, "We see that your mother is dying, but your mother isn't dying fast enough." i kinda hope she got hit by a bus. Even if it's her job, find better ways of wording shit ( ... )

For profit "healthcare" is immoral. Making a profit off of people's misery is just fucking evil. Everyone needs healthcare, they shouldn't have to go bankrupt because they get sick. The elderly and poor shouldn't be treated like shit because they are elderly and poor.

I hate this fucking system with the fire of a thousand suns.
