I know how he feels about being diagnosed late in life. My mum took me to the doctors tons of times when I was a kid and told them she thought I was autistic, but back then they said girls couldn’t get autism. Ridiculous. It took until I was 26 to get an actual proper diagnosis.
Yeah I’m so lucky I found a doctor who had studied how autism presents in girls and was able to take me seriously and diagnose me, whereas other doctors literally just said ‘if you don’t count trains then your not autistic’ which is such a boy-centric idea of autism.
It was also a show where I could never tell if I actually liked watching it.
I think that's how I felt about it, too. It sort of gave me the same feeling as Pamela Adlon's Better Things, where the characters/their relationships were so different from my life that it seemed like a put on at times.
edit: I think I'm thinking of Everything's Going to Be Okay, actually. I'll have to rewatch some of Please Like Me and see if it's the same.
Please Like Me was phenomenal! One of the best tv depictions on mental health.
Everything's Gonna Be Okay felt a bit clunky at times, but I'm still curious for a new season. (I also enjoyed Genevieve's little monologues to herself during the roll of end credits).

Seems like he mostly plays himself with a few differences on his shows. But I suppose a lot of actors do.
