Because they're terrible. When you only care about yourself and have no morals or ethics I don't think it's too hard honestly.

Because contracts work.
The fact that the production teams or networks are so cynical that they knowingly go into business with awful people whom they KNOW are awful but want them around to get publicity and viewers and attention (even bad attention) and set up contracts giving them rich pay-offs when they inevitably cause too much controversy and have to "resign"? That's how they keep winning.

This reminds me of that guy that created the CW DC shows, Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash. Known for sexually harassing and threatening the cast and crew, Berlanti just moved him from show to show when he created too many problems. It wasn't until dozens of people went to the media rather than the network that he got suspended and then given a $10 milllion golden parachute.

Being a monster apparently pays very, very well.

I mean, I guess the network actually did the right thing, but I'm so confused as to how this would benefit them? like, even just keeping her on the show would probably be more in their interest, paying her out a lump sum and letting her say she quit just makes them look like they gave her everything she wanted.

There needs to be some clause to keep this shit from happening. You're a terrible person? Well congrats, you get nothing!
