One of the good things my mom did was take me to open a savings account when I was 9, I loved putting money in there and by the time I was 18 I had a few thousand saved. And I grew up watching her record all her purchases in a notebook each month so I learned to keep track of all my spending.
I maxed out my IRA 2020 contribution today so that felt really good. I just wish I opened it when I was 18 instead of 26 cause it would be six figures by now :(
My mom made a half-assed attempt to teach us about saving as kids (they put aside a little money for us for college every year, and we got a two-dollar allowance for maybe a year in elementary school-one dollar for saving, one for spending). [ETA: both my parents grew up rich and didn't know shit about money until they got married.]
I remember asking my mom about our "savings" in middle school and, meager though it was, it had apparently gone straight to the divorce lawyers so 🙃
But FWIW, my husband and I are gainfully employed, living within our means, and even though they're only half paid off, I see the light at the end of the tunnel re: my student loans.
This makes me so angry and too many people will just accept it because they will spin it as trying to protect children when all its designed to do is harm.
I couldn’t figure out how to answer the poll. Yes, I was given great lessons growing up on how NOT to handle your finances. It wasn’t intentional - but it was effective. 🤷🏻♀️
I did a deep dive into her hair stylist's Twitter -- Megan @'d her at some point -- and she SAYS she's genuine and doesn't care about the haters. she's either genuine or delusional
