Get your shit together, Oscars producers.

Wait, so if they win they can’t even accept the award if they’re not there? That’s so stupid and surely would decrease viewer numbers

Yup. As of right now, that's what they're saying. Everyone who's participating in some way has to be there in person.

This anti-Zoom thing is so they can have the red carpet fashion show, which is a big reason people watch. They do at least an hour-long pregame fashion show and then the pics are sold and everyone makes money off of that.

Last year the Oscars broadcast hit a new ratings low, so they know people have been declining to watch for awhile and they're desperate to put on some kind of show this year.

It's really stupid, but when have they ever been smart?

As someone in education where you are either Zoom or Teams, this made me laugh.

Lack of self-awareness and over-inflated self importance will continue to kill these shows

I'm all for throwing every single award show in the trash where it belongs. They are horribly produced/directed/written, boring, stupid...and someone was paid to write the ridiculous dialogue/banter? They cut off people that actually have something to say and let others ramble on for eternity (looking at people like Al Pacino)...

Why not just have a red carpet runway show and hand out awards? It would be over in what... 15 minutes?

The only part is the people that should get recognized for their work would be left out...but it seems they are continually left out for other bs as it is. IDK...

SUCH a stupid idea. I get the technical glitches of the Globes weren't great, but 8/20 acting nominees this year are British. And I don't know about Maria Bakalova (Bulgarian) and Youn Yuh-jung (South Korean), but they could potentially be excluded as well.

AMPAS doesn't care since their agenda is getting a room full of stars who the public will recognize on sight and most of them have homes in California or New York City and can be in the room.

and it's ridiculous because the globes were a mess because they didn't seem at all adequately prepared, not because it went virtual. the emmys made it honestly pretty seamless and proved a virtual show can work fine. but of course the academy will consider themselves ~above~ both

Yeah, I thought the Emmys killed it. They went first, and did it the best. I loved that Schitt’s Creek had their own little party in Toronto. It was seamless indeed! I don’t know why the Oscars think they’re such hot shit.
