I've never watched this show before. Is it really campy like S1 Scream Queens or is it played straight?

it's still pretty campy though to be fair and i say this with all due respect i don't think ryan murphy can do anything that isn't campy

It's tonally all over the place. It's never been straight comedy like Scream Queens was and it can get very dark. But it can also get campy.

I.E. Asylum was incredibly disturbing at times but it also had scenes like this:

Sometimes it can be downright disturbing/gory for shock's sake.

I kept up and watched every season until the Apocalypse season. I just couldn't. It was all over the place- not in a good way.

I've always had a soft spot for the Culkins and glad he's still getting work.

really interested to see what the theme for this season is going to be considering they've done pretty much everything except robots and aliens and cthulhu and whatever the fuck?

the beach imagery is the only real thing that we know just yet and the outfits don't give anything away???

looking forward to seeing macaulay in this, though.

I feel like they’re burning out/running out of ideas, but there’s so much they haven’t really done... like boat/ocean/water horror, werewolves, contagions, urban exploring horror... they only kind of did zombies. They could do something in the arctic... like “The Thing” inspired. But their season arcs of going from creepy to too much/everyone is dead is super tired.

I would love a series loosely inspired by The Thing. Nothing terrifies me more than a situation where some kind of unseen evil jumps from person to person and a whole group of people slowly turns against each other.

Then again, I just don't trust Murphy with that brand of psychological terror.
