also I really liked the Normal People book & adaptation but I could hardly make it through 10 pages of this one, I found it weirdly unbearable

yeah, of the actors cast, he is the weirdest fit for me - not how I pictured that character in my head at all.

He definitely is an odd choice - also I think I pictured a vague Jake Gyllenhaal type, someone late 30s rather than Joe's age.

I loved the Normal People book, but I didn't like this one as much.

I wonder how much of Joe's career has to do with Taylor's influence tbh bc he ain't cute, doesn't have an ounce of screen presence & has the charisma of a wet towel. so I always wonder why, in this vast sea of boring, mediocre white dudes, he's one of the drops that made it onto somebody's used hollywood bikini.
