Notorious Celebrity Photoshoots: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for W Magazine, 2005
This is a somewhat new ONTD original series-- Notorious Celebrity Photoshoots. In it, we will revisit some of the most notorious celebrity photoshoots in pop culture. It is a spinoff of my previous series, Notorious Celebrity Interviews.
Today, it is Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's then-scandalous photoshoot for W Magazine. Shot by Steven Klein, the images shocked mainstream America, especially since they were published shortly after the breakup of Pitt with Jennifer Aniston and shortly before Pitt and Jolie went public.
The actors were promoting the action film Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Pitt had a reputation as an all-American stud who had been married to America's sweetheart, while Jolie was known as a dark temptress. Their steamy photoshoot was shocking in how brazen and sexual it was.
Some of the photos are disturbing in their implications.
Not long after this photoshoot, Angelina would sell paparazzi photographs of herself, Pitt, and her son Maddox on a beach in Africa. This signaled to the public that she and Pitt were indeed an item.
