Feb 11, 2021 23:38

Good MornTing - it's time to highlight another icon for Black History Month. For this post, OP will be highlighting some dazzling performances from the one and only Tina Turner, who is nominated for the 2021 Class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She has been previously inducted but this consideration for her solo career.

1. I could watch this video over and over - Oprah's fangirling, the audience when them chords start, that strut down the stairs. Tina Turner is sublime and don't you fucking forget it!

2. Career longevity, career resurgence, a fucking timeless legend. The Guardian once described her career and stage prowess and legacy: "She catapulted herself to the forefront of a musical revolution that had long marginalized and overlooked the pioneering contributions of African American women and then remade herself again at an age when most pop musicians were hitting the oldies circuit. Turner's musical character has always been a charged combination of mystery as well as light, melancholy mixed with a ferocious vitality that often flirted with danger."

5. For some, she is the definition of resilience. She doesn't give a lot of interviews but the few moments she lets us into her world, she is funny, smart, sweet. A woman with a storied life, with its ups and downs, there's such a sweetness and gentle nature.

6. “My legacy is that I stayed on course...from the beginning to the end, because I believed in something inside of me... "So my legacy is a person that strived for wanting it better and got it.”

7. This woman has been serving us legs and lewks for decades!

8. “I like me very much. When I look in the mirror and my skin glows back at me, I think, 'Wow, that sure is pretty.' I have a simple, childlike view of life, and I want to keep it."

We like you very much too, Miss Tina.

9. She married rich and fucked off to Switzerland and said, "fuck America". Okay, OP doesn't know if she really said that but an inspiration to us all. (She did relinquish her US citizenship a few years back.)

10. She is in the pantheon of rich auntie goals.
