"I’d spent June and July marching for racial justice through the streets of New York with my kids. I could definitely see how a show about a white American selling luxury whiteness, in a pre-pandemic Paris scrubbed free of its vibrant African and Muslim communities, might rankle."

This is such an odd thing to say. Why "march for racial justice" but knowingly write a show ignoring African and Muslim communities??? Am I missing something here? Has she previously talked about trying to be more inclusive and been shot down?

Is she calling herself out lmao wtf

But in all seriousness I've seen this behaviour, it's like "I'm aware of what I am doing but I am better than this because I went to a BLM protest. I'm woke y'all"

She's in the writers room, sooooo... if she actually said something in the writers room, she sure as hell would have said she did 🤔

She’s not wrong but I don’t understand why single out Emily in Paris. I mean it wasn’t Darren Starr who claimed the nomination for itself. I feel like putting HFPA on a blast makes more sense since Emily in Paris could just as easily be any other white show if EIP wasn’t produced this year.

It's def racism, obviously, but I feel like it's also the subject matter -- it's a woman talking about something so unpleasant and personal in such a 'messy' way. Neither Bella nor Kwame are ~saintly victims~ and they don't handle their experiences in the obvious, simplistic ways that would be 'easiest' for viewers to understand and empathize with. Which is what makes the show great, obviously, but you actually have to work at it and deeply consider another person's journey, and I guess the HFPA just didn't want to put the emotional effort in. What a shock.

I totally missed Lily being nominated for Emily in Paris, and.... HOW?! How can you look at that show and think it deserves anything?

MA'AM: Is Hamilton great because Lin-Manuel Miranda is Puerto Rican? No. It’s great because it bangs.

Hamilton is awful. From top to bottom. Arguably, it's so acclaimed because it uses Black culture (badly) and people of color to reinforce notions of American exceptionalism without actually grappling with race and enslavement. I May Destroy You doesn't cater to the white gaze at all. That's part of why it got snubbed.

This soooooo much. Diversity but on white terms is what they want.

I hate how catchy the Hamilton tunes are cause they want to trick me into liking a misogynistic POS. not to mention LMM ruined whatever appeal that was left by casting himself in the lead when his voice is far too weak to hold a candle to the rest of the cast, and too whiny to appear credibly charismatic. and the overall theme is really off-putting, like you said.
