ONTD Original: Where Are They Now? Stars of Nickelodeon's "All That" Spin-Offs

Feb 02, 2021 12:01

All That was the blueprint for a bunch of up-and-coming child actors. Many of the stars ended up starring in their own series and/or have found success after the show. The show is currently in it's 11 season on Nickelodeon with a brand new cast. The newest iteration has brought back many of their original cast members as Guest Stars and both Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell as executive producers.

Kenan and Kel (1996-2000)

"Who loves Orange Soda? Kel, loves orange soda."

This was the first show that starred cast members of the hit kids variety show during the show's run (Yes, Danny Tamberelli starred on a Nick series too but it aired before he joined the cast). The show starred two of the original All That cast members Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Thompson had starred in a couple of Disney movies as a child such as Heavyweights and the sequels of The Mighty Ducks franchise while Mitchell's only credits prior was his stint on All That. A producer on All That noticed that both Thompson and Mitchell would goof off in between takes of All That. Thus, sparking interest in the two headlining their own series.

The dynamic duo not only continued working on All That for three more years while simultaneously starring in their hit sitcom Kenan and Kel, they also filmed the movie Good Burger (1997) which was a spin-off of Kel Mitchell's most famous skits on All That. Both Thompson and Mitchell were the blueprint of dynamic duos on Nickelodeon. What made it work was that they were best friends who had incredible comedic timing which was gold for the network that the duo often did guest appearances on shows on Nickelodeon and off the network. Some notable appearances include Sabrina, The Teenage Witch and Sister, Sister.

Though there were many rumors throughout the years that the duo no longer got along, it seemed as though they may have lost touch throughout the years after they had both auditioned for Saturday Night Live. But the duo has still done a lot of nostalgic work for Nickelodeon such as being the faces of their "The 90's are All That" block, competing against each other on the reboot of Double Dare, and they both executive produce the latest reboot of All That, the show that brought them together and the success they both have today. Mitchell recently joined Thompson on his podcast, "U Already Know" in January of 2021.

Kenan Thompson has made himself a household name when it comes to comedians in sketch comedy. After Kenan and Kel, he starred in the live action Fat Albert film, has done voice acting in various cartoons, and has become a record breaking cast member on Saturday Night Live. He will simultaneously star in his own series once again called Kenan on NBC which airs in February. Kenan has two children with his wife.

Kel Mitchell has had modest success after Kenan and Kel, often making guest appearances on several TV shows. He was casted in the Nickelodeon show Game Shakers as Double G, a rapper who invests in the app company the children on the show run. Mitchell has done a lot of self appearances on the network to this day. He was runner-up on his season of Dancing With The Stars with his partner Witney Carlson. He has four children.

The Amanda Show (1999-2002)

"Bring in the dancing lobsters!"

Amanda Bynes replaced Angelique Bates on All That and became a well utilized cast member during her seasons. She was approached to star in her own variety series which spoofed many popular TV shows at the time such as Survivor, Judge Judy, and Dawson's Creek. Amanda Bynes was everywhere on Nickelodeon, she stayed on All That for it's 6th and final season before the show was rebooted again while also filming her own series. This would be Bynes' last Nickelodeon endeavor before sparking her iconic teen movie career. The show spawned a series starring her three co-stars Nancy Sullivan, Drake Bell, and Josh Peck called Drake and Josh. Her Moody's Point co-star Taran Kilam also found success on Saturday Night Live years later after the show.

Amanda Bynes headlined another series after The Amanda Show ended called What I Like About You. She starred in many classic early 2000's teen films such as What A Girl Wants, She's The Man, Hairspray, and Easy A. She had a shortlived fashion line called Dear. She retired from acting but has expressed a desire to start acting again. In the past years, she has been focusing on her sobriety and finishing school at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. She recently posted a clip of a song she on, on her Instagram. She's currently engaged.

The Nick Cannon Show (2002-2003)

The Nick Cannon Show aired two years after All That's first iteration ended in 2000. The show suffered from low ratings and has not been syndicated since. It lasted for one season. It was semi-scripted and Cannon had a lot of creative freedom being a writer and creator of the show. But unfortunately, it did not have a similar impact as The Amanda Show or Kenan and Kel had.

Cannon did have a huge presence on Nickelodeon during his time with the network. He guest starred on many Nickelodeon shows and produced original movies for the channel such as Rags and School Gyrls. Similarly to his All That co-star Kel Mitchell, Cannon's ties to the network stays strong as he still produces content for Nickelodeon and their sister channel MTV.

Nick Cannon had a lot of success in hosting and producing over the years. He starred in a few teen movies such as Love Don't Cost a Thing and Drumline. He had a brief rap career that players on his successful MTV series Wild 'n' Out have ruthlessly roasted him about. Though he has not acted much in the past few years besides working on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Real Husbands of Hollywood. He's most famous for his hosting gigs on America's Got Talent and The Masked Singer. He was married to pop singer Mariah Carey. Cannon has four kids.

Zoey 101 (2005-2008)

Jamie Lynn Spears starred in the second iteration of All That. At the time, being the little sister of the biggest popstar in the world Britney Spears was a huge draw for me to watch this show. It was about the only series that was moreso a dramedy. For Millenials, the series made kids growing up want to go to boarding school and wishing that JetX's were real. Spears became pregnant while the show was still airing. At the time, she and her older sister were under a lot of public scrutiny. Though many assumed Spears' pregnancy was the reason why the show was cancelled, the announcement was made prior to it's fourth and final season which had already wrapped production. The show had a lot of onset drama that Spears' co-star has cited being unhappy and pitted against while on the show. By the end of the show, Spears co-star Victoria Justice was offered her own TV series, Victorious.

Jamie Lynn Spears took a break from acting to raise her daughter Maddie. She has released a country EP and appeared on her older sister's Britney's song Chillin' With You. She recently resumed her acting career in Netflix's Sweet Magnolias. She recently married and had a second child with her husband. She recently appeared on the current reboot of All That and has been pushing on a Zoey 101 reboot for the past year.

Just Jordan (2007-2008)

Just Jordan starred Lil' JJ also known as James Lewis III who is best known from the second run of All That for being the Vital Information anchor in it's last season was offered his own series prior to the show ending. Nick was packaging Lil' JJ as one of their next big stars as he appeared on multiple shows on the Network and hosted many events along side Lily Collins and Pick Boy. The series lasted for 2 seasons (the last three episodes were shot for season 3 but production halted due to the writer's strike). The show notably starred Justin Chon. Demi Lovato and Tiffany Haddish both had small roles on the show prior to their careers skyrocketing.

Lil' JJ now goes by Big JJ professionally. He attended Arkansas Baptist College in 2013. He's still pursuing acting and comedy and can be seen in the current seasons of Nick Cannon's Wild 'N' Out. According to Instagram, it looks like he has his own marijuana farm.

Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias (2000) only lasted for one season which was the last season before the series was rebooted. Though a lot of people aren't very familiar with his work on the show and clips of him on the show are a bit hard to come by... his career only went up from his short stint on the show. Fluffy's successful stand up career has spawned plenty of stand up specials. He currently stars in the Netflix series Mr. Iglesias and hosts Nickelodeon's Unleashed.
