Tonight’s “Celebrating America” primetime special celebrating Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration came to a close with a performance of “Firework” from Katy Perry. Her performance naturally featured an enormous display of fireworks that surrounded the Washington Monument as Biden, Harris and their families watched on

John Legend's performance was great.

I wish I had known there were going to be fireworks for 2 reasons:
1) In a city where there was just an insurrection 2 weeks ago, knowing that I'd be hearing sudden pops for a benign reason would've been REALLY NICE, and
2) I could've run down the street to get a better view!

oh my friend who lives in Foggy Bottom flipped out when she heard the fireworks, she thought a civil war started lol they didn't tell anybody. I kind of understand though considering they don't want anybody showing up for the fireworks due to COVID and the situation but still

The end where everything was going off at once, at a really low height, with large plumes of smoke rising into the air was terrifying to see, even when you knew it was fireworks

IKr! I was watching and put the tv on mute and just started hearing these large booms out of no where and not realizing it was from the concert until I looked back at the screen. It made me think of this 30 rock episode.

It was nice to take a moment to just like, be happy???

Obviously there is so much work left to do (and the executive orders signed today were a good start!) and we have to make sure Biden does his best to live up to his promises and we're going to have to keep pressure on Senators to get legislation passed.

... but just for a while today, it was really nice to feel some of the weight of the last four years be lifted.

I got weirdly emotional when Biden/Jill & Kamala/Her husband were holding each other while watching the fireworks.
