He and his brother were/are total messes. I'm not surprised. I feel sorry for Stephanie and Peter and Peter Jr.

Is there info about their messiness? Apart from this tragedy anyway.

There's a lot.

The comment about him being "days away from going to rehab" is heartbreaking.

So sad. I don’t know much about them but I’ve come across their instagrams before
and I remembered thinking what fun lives they have from the pictures. I didn’t realise how messy their lives were. Was it mainly drug addiction or were there other issues? Did they have a troubled upbringing too?

Anyway I feel sorry for his family.

Also it’s shocking how much meds people in the US get prescribed compared to here.

Oh how awful. RIP

Opioid addiction is a serious fucking problem that no one takes seriously because it doesn’t look the way people imagine drug addiction, but the reality is that so many people become addicted post-surgery or medical procedure. There are plenty of doctors who dgaf about prescribing these, which says so much about the American healthcare system and the pharmaceutical industry’s grip.

I moved to Sweden years ago and my American “there’s a pill for that” ass was shocked at how reticent GPs here are to prescribe medication PERIOD. It’s such a different attitude towards medication when capitalism isn’t involved. Obviously, things like Metformin for diabetics, ACE-inhibitors for people with hypertension, those aren’t an issue here, but when it comes to antibiotics and pain medication, doctors are VERY conservative in their use.

kinda glad to see they're conservative about antibiotics. Not only the global implications re: mutations, but also because the side effects can suck ass and not worth it if you don't really need them.

There have def been a couple times a doctor here (US) prescribed me antibiotics for shit I know didn't need them and I never filled them. Also changed doctors too, lol. It's bad enough I have to take them for every dental procedure because of my shit infections.

ITA w/r to mutations; it's how I feel about using Purell and shit like that too. Wash your hands properly, it's fine, you do not need to put alcohol on everything.

My mom is an RN and constantly harping on my sister's reliance to ask for z-packs at the slightest hint of a cold. Girl, you have a virus, not a bacteria; stay the fuck home and rest.

As someone who is very much in the world of infectious disease, antibiotic resistance is a HUGE looming problem. Like yeah, climate change and zoonotic diseases like COVID are the defining global problems we're facing, but antibiotic resistance is like this invisible monster that promises to send us back to the industrial age when you could die of a scrape or a cough.
