Cats are carnivorous and shouldn't be vegetarian or vegan, but dogs are omnivorous. I'm not familiar with studies done around veg*n diets for dogs though.

Oh boy. I I think I know the journey this post will take.

While I can't speak for putting pets on a vegan diet, I think everyone should try veganism/vegetarianism at least once. I stopped eating meat for 30 days just to see if I could do it and I felt physically so much better that I haven't gone back. Everyone is different and if you find what works for you then that's awesome sauce. While I'm mostly vegetarian, I eat fish once about once a month when I feel like it.

Also in pet news: my bad and ugly dog back home stepped in a glue trap in the basement. My parents are like "haha so funny" and I'm like "okay but get it off him asap" smh.

I've been working on being a vegetarian for several years now, and the way I really find it works is if I 1. Have every type of lentil / bean on hand lol and 2. Don't stop the journey if for whatever reason I consume a type of meat. I have gotten dramatically better at it since I learned how to properly prepare dried beans, but I'm still going through learning about different types of tofu/cooking methods, and I just keep keep trying to reduce the amount of times I ever eat meat.

i really think your 2) is the way to go for the average joe, rather than full on not eating meat. in many countries people just arent ready to even think about leading a full vegetarian lifestyle, let alone vegan...

my bf is a vegetarian so we just eat veggie at home and if we get takeout/eat out i'll get meat if i feel like it in the moment. I tried being vegetarian numerous times, but it never worked out for various reasons, and this way i end up eating meat maybe only 2-4 times a month anyway.

that being said, it would be amazing if those living vegan/vegetarian could get some praise for what they are doing, rather than ridicule (in many cases).

yeah I agree, especially because food is such an important part of many cultures, and meat can play a very ceremonial role-- even in the west, the Christmas bird is a big deal, and getting people to give that up would be much harder than, say, getting them to eat more plant based generally.

Some instagram ~celebrity was claiming to be vegan but also ate salmon maybe a year ago? It caused a big brouhaha, and I felt the same way you do like...just say mostly plant-based.
