Whenever I see someone talk about the Hampton’s makes me think of these really rich people I met in my early 20’s. My husband was going to school with some dude originally from NY (We live in AZ). He said he was the the (I think) East Hamptons? So I said “Oh the Hampton’s?” And he was adamant like no way! Saying people who actually lived in the Hampton’s were douche bags. Not fully realizing how loaded his family was. Overall him, his gf and his friends were very nice giving people. Meeting their friends was funny though because they talked about their trips and vacations to Europe and stuff like it was totally normal and my husband and I just sat there listening. The farthest I’d travelled was to CA lol
i do believe east hampton is considered one of the higher-end areas. my grandma lived in hampton bays most of my childhood. it wasn't exactly ritzy but i do remember being able to walk to someone's house where there were zebras and peacocks behind their gate??? in my childhood brain it was like a secret garden sort of thing.
one of my aunts now lives somewhere in the hamptons and always complains about the high helicopter traffic. must be nice for that to be your only complaint in life 🙄
i swear to god my grandparents weren't loaded lol i think they just bought the house at the right time waaaaaay back in like the 60s. the house was pretty modest (3 bed, 1 bath upstairs, and a finished basement with a bed, bath and kitchen).
Yeah they seemed a little old money. Like very comfortable and well off. Not like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk but family had some money and investments which is a lot different than my family and social circle. They were super incredibly nice people though. Very non judgmental and open minded but also super aware of how privileged they were. I remember they loved out freeways and said they were futuristic and also got a kick out of us once when we were driving. My husband missed a turn and I was like “just flip a bitch on the next turn” and they thought it was the greatest thing ever lol They had never heard that expression when asking someone to make a U Turn. To make it more funny the guy legit looked just like Kurt Cobain. Literally identical. I still keep up with them a bit and the couple went their separate ways but remained cordial and caring.
