It's not normal at all for actors to get to do their own cuts. I'm confused how he even got the footage. Probably intimidated someone into giving him the files, or just forced the editor to make his cut on the side. This vid might not have been union, but if it were, it would be a huge infringement on the rules the unions have between each other re: which roles do what. DGA would not be ok with this at all.

no, it's fucking weird. I imagine the only reason they allowed it is because if wilde walked off, they still needed a video.
he'd already changed the scope of the video, too, from what I read when I watched it a few weeks ago. he wanted it to include nudity, which I guess it didn't call for initially (being that it starred the musician's young sister). he pretty much railroaded that entire project and made it the shia project.
