i'm sad for her that she's struggled. i've had my ed for 16 years. i understand that dark temptation to share how low you've been. literally and figuratively. but in all my conversations about eds with people who have had them or haven't, i'd never list off specific weights or share photos of me when i wasn't in active recovery. i consider it to be similar to torture porn. no one is gaining anything from it except remembering what it felt like to be physically smaller, and more mentally tortured.

oh my god totally, that's why i really understand the impulse. it's like you feel like (because you are) revealing the most raw and vulnerable part of you. i feel a lot of empathy as to why people with eds do this, because it makes so much sense. it feels validating, in a way. like here is a moment in my life that is very much a part of my soul and what shaped who i am as a person.
i just encourage the self analysation of asking who is this post really for, and who could i potentially hurt by continuing the narrative that you must be this thin to be at the darkest moment of your life, completely enthralled by your eating disorder, because that can look like any weight.
sorry for this lengthy reply, i'm just so interested in the discourse here. and your reply made total sense to me. i'm happy that you were able to find some validation within your relationship with your therapist. it's so hard sometimes.

Um, wanting to see pictures of people at their lowest points means that there are going to be posts that are triggering and upsetting. So, Halsey isn't at fault here.

Okay, so she should have put the trigger warning beforehand, sure. But, like the general point stands that this challenge is going to be triggering for people because being at your lowest point is going to trigger someone. This challenge shouldn't have even been a thing.

she's halsey. it could have been a pic of g-eazy attempting to give head. it could have been her snorting coke off machine gun kelly's dick. it could have been her sitting at a desk writing a serious tumblr post. they knew they weren't gonna get something light from her and had no right to castigate her after she gave them exactly what they were looking for.

We're never going back to that tbh. The veil has been ripped off of public figures. In a lot of ways it's good bc we're seeing how shitty a lot of rich, powerful people are. Social media can ruin you. I just think there's a point where we're unable to separate social media vs reality.

Or when they had a little more media savvy!? Honestly it's a fucked up thing to ask for to begin with and people were out of line but she should have ignored it or turned it into a joke and just posted that meme video of her singing blink-182 at the mall or whatever.
