I'm glad Fincher respected his boundaries, it makes me so mad when
I hear about directors pressuring actors and actresses (mainly actresses let's be real) to do certain scenes. Like why tf did you hire them in the first place?

Because directors are usually male and think they can talk anyone into anything they want because that's life.

i have different thoughts about stuff like this, because, i mean. you're an actor. act like you're not religious.

LMAO LET ME STOP, I'M KINDA HIGH TBH. also an atheist so this is not my lane. but it just always seems odd to me. but if i go down that route, i wind up with scarlet the tree actor and that's wrong, too

If a woman is uncomfortable being naked on film, should she just ~act like she's not uncomfortable?

What does a sex scene provide to a film that is so necessary that without it, it would fail?

Playing Devil's advocate here, but if a sex scene is in the job description and the director makes it clear what is required of said scene, then the actor should probably make sure they're comfortable with that before accepting the job. I liked that Fincher was accommodating, and that sort of compromise would seem to be ideal. But again, you know what you're signing up for.

As far as what sex scenes can add? They can convey a lot. I think about Blue Valentine in that scene where they're trying to make it work, but it's obvious to the audience that it's not. Or in gay cinema, sex scenes can really capture the tension, apprehension, excitement, and everything else that comes along with being a young gay/lesbian person exploring their sexuality. That doesn't mean a sex scene can't be gratuitous, but the same could be said of other types of scenes too (e.g., violence, comedy, or dramatic monologues).

Sex scenes rarely exist to add something in my movie watching experience, a lot exist to be gratious and serving the male gaze. So I think every actor and actress interested in a role has the right to question the necessity of a sex scene and shouldn't just have to sit there and take or not take a job, since clearly those scenes can be discussed and changed.

I first discovered him in the tv show the 4400. He was SOOOO good in that. I'm still kinda shocked that years later he's become such a well-respected, awarded huge star. Happy, but shocked.
