Whoever wrote this review is spot on. Also agree with him that Joaquin was amazing in The Master. Should have been his Oscar that year.

i feel like ppl are completely misinterpreting what he said. i don't think he's criticizing the joker, i think he's saying the story shows a character who's betraying the mentally ill. idk, it's all kind of confusing, i just don't think it's a shot.

also, absolutely NOT here for his take on cancel culture.

Most of the time it is a rich famous person being called out for something genuinely awful (sexual harassment, racism) and then being shocked they are being called out for it and then whining about how "cancel culture" is ruining lives while still making millions.

The interviewer probably brought it up.

It seems like he could be saying that Joker is a betrayal of the mentally ill or that it is about the betrayal of the mentally ill, and I can't really tell from the context which it is.

I'm pretty sure he's criticizing the film's portrayal of mental illness.

It's weird how quickly I forgot about this movie.

david fincher will always be old white man nonsense to me. i hated the social network. literally everything about it, the music (trent reznor is another old white man nonsense), the directing, the acting, everything. i did enjoy gone girl. did not like his take on the girl with the dragon tattoo (can't stand rooney mara and her "acting"). writing this out made me realize he really upholds white mediocrity

i might be at "assholes eating crackers" level with david fincher. anyway i haven't seen the joker so can't really comment on his take on the movie
