Amazon Will Stream Eddie Murphy’s ‘Coming To America’ Sequel Because Of Uncertain Theatrical Marketplace https://t.co/OYjGN0Tktw - Deadline Hollywood (@DEADLINE) October 14, 2020
I figured this was going to streaming. Paramount’s burned off all of like 4 of their 2020 slate. Top Gun’s probably the only one making it to theaters (eventually, maybe).
I think this will be very successful, especially if they keep a holiday release date on Prime. People like EM, enjoy the nostalgic factor of the first film, and want a reason to laugh.
And Amazon already paid in the same range for the Borat sequel as that will also likely be a streaming hit.
Remember: Sandler films continue to do very well on Netflix and those are wattpad level garbage.
I watched the latest Sandler movie because I was in Marblehead during the filming there and I wanted to see if I recognized anything and it was SO BAD. Truly one of the worst movies of his.
The Halloween one? Yea, his Netflix originals always look terrible to me. I couldn’t finish the murder mystery one but I know that was a hit too. I hope he can continue leaning into more unexpected choices because his Uncut Gems performance was fab.

That's a sad idea for a sequel, though. Ruins the happy ending of the first movie, and I like my happy endings.
