I've been rewatching Degrassi on YouTube and holy crap I love Paige. She is a badass HBIC.

Paige was that bitch tbh.

She was "Regina George" before Regina but with more layers and a good arc of growth.

cute topic, but No Blaire, No care.

ONTD Americans, I'm curious, did your High School have a Queen Bee? In my own High School in the Philippines, my own grade level would have several of differing sub-types lmao

No I went to big high schools (like two to three thousand) so you didn’t know the vast majority of students

I think a true queen bee needs a smaller high school to truly shine

Not really. The most popular girl in my class was really nice and smart. Also the peak time for girl meanness was middle school. The guys in my high school acted more like the mean girls you see in popular culture.

Went to high school in small town Kansas and we had a cluster of queen bees. My parents didn't have money and weren't on the school board, so I couldn't throw a fit and get my way the way other kids could. And by the time I was an upperclassman, I was over that stupid school and the idiots that populated it and was ready to graduate and LEAVE. (I'm one of maybe 5 in my high school class of 98 that no longer live in the state of Kansas.)

Is it the actress or the role? gumby October 4 2020, 02:16:57 UTC
I've noticed a lot of the mean, yet complicated, characters are played by actresses that end up getting the most praise for their acting abilities.

Do you think it's because the producers end up finding the best actresses who have the ability to handle the role, or is it because the role itself is so juicy that it gives the opportunity for them to showcase their abilities?

Also, this list sucks. How is Blair Waldorf not on here? The writer can't even use the excuse that they didn't watch Gossip Girl because Georgina Sparks (wtf) is on here.

I think it can be a combination of both. I find that the 'queen bee' characters tend to be the most complex and multi-faceted when written well, so I guess in that way, those actors tend to get the better material/show more sides of themselves. I also know in some cases, actors really fight for that and to make the character their own (like Dianna Agron with Quinn - Ryan just wanted her to be a bitchy cheerleader, but Dianna wanted her to have depth).

Bit of both. I think everyone involved tends to be more aware of the need to flesh out mean girls to stop them becoming 2-dimensional
