2020 Strikes Again: The Venture Bros. Has Been Canceled

Sep 07, 2020 17:41

After an extremely worrying tweet from friend of the show and author of Go Team Venture! Ken Plume this weekend hinting that the show was cancelled, co-creator Jackson Publick confirmed it today.

Unfortunately, it’s true: #VentureBros has been canceled. We got the highly disappointing news a few months ago, while we were writing what would have ( Read more... )

I can't believe they didn't even give them the opportunity to make season 8 the final one, like how shitty. Maybe they can take it to Netflix.

I am UPSET.

Do Adult Swim think they're going to come up with a better shows to replace it? Because they would be WRONG.

[AS] is just the Rick & Morty + Robot Chicken block now. I'll be surprised if Tuca & Bertie lasts on there.

ia. I used to love early AS content... I remember staying up for sealab, harvey birdman, and the brak show.

my fave episode is forever lost in time... sweet dreams, doppelgängers!

I’m pissed. I love this show.

But tbh I’m surprised it didn’t happen before now given the wait between seasons. Idk if that was on them or adult swim tbh. Adult swim sat on rick and Morty until there were those quiet rumors of how to get out from under AS and move to Hulu.

I hope Hulu or Netflix picks it up even if it’s a one last season kind of thing. It would nice to get an ending but it’s also very Venture if we don’t.

I think it’s probably all related to the merger between WB and AT&T. AT&T is now the parent company and they’ve been hacking away at WB in an attempt to lower the debt burden with “sub-brands” facing the chopping block.

VB is a near two decade old show whose continued existence was in spite of its declining viewership, missing of all the deadlines and costly production values because the now-retired creator of Adult Swim was like a patron. I guess with Lazzo leaving, it didn’t have the clout to merit a renewal under the auspices of AT&T and the stuff is under Hulu so won’t be on streaming app HBO Maximum: Reloded: The Re-Up. I’m upset but when I saw the ratings for season 6 and 7, I legit thought a cancellation was going to be coming because it flew in the face of the animated adult comedy genre producing huge hits like Archer, Bojack, Rick & Morty and Bob’s Burgers.

I hope P&H just release a season 8 podcast. I trust Hammer to do the scoring.

I don't disagree with this but I also feel like, if given the right marketing, VB could be huge right now. I think the younger kids don't know the show because it is NEVER on. It has all the right ingredients to be a sleeper in a few years. I am just hoping that decent streaming picks it up (I am looking at YOU Netflix!)

I kinda think the long waits between seasons means that VB has a bit of a curve to climb to be as big as those shows. Like, the show runners had a knack for missing deadlines and it was clearly having an impact on ~viewer attrition~. AS did quite a of promotion for S4/5 but the plot thickened and the time between seasons lengthened, and audiences aren’t interested in spending two - three years to find out if the plot is going to tread water on the Monarch-Rusty connection.

I think the show is tied up with a contract with Hulu. Is Hulu with Disney? BOB IGER RELEASE THE VENTURE BROS! I’ll eat pennies.
