I remember reading somewhere that he was Connor's stepdad but there was nothing about Zoe. I thought maybe they were going with the "Zoe has her dad and I don't" angle but then I remembered that Connor and Zoe are only a year apart in the show so even if Connor's dad peaced out (or died) before or shortly after he was born and Cynthia moved on RIGHTAWAY and got pregnant with Zoe as soon as possible, Connor would have been so young that Zoe's dad would have been the only dad he'd ever known.
