That's nice. But as per usual if someone hasn't been racist/sexist/homophobic/plain horrific to one person doesn't mean they aren't to the others. You're basically invalidating others who do feel like they have been demeaned or hurt by someone.

the entire starting point of this discussion is whether ellen was bullying her. it's literally in the op's post and yet you are stubbornly and obtusely centering the entire debate around your arguments. you had to really dig deep for those clips huh. i don't see any harmful jokes. just two friends/colleagues teasing each other. me and my friends laugh about my mispronunciations of the Finnish language all the goddamn time. that is entirely different from a complete stranger with malicious intent making fun of someone's ethnic background. now THAT is textbook racism/xenophobia, which i've also had to endure on the daily so don't be fucking telling me what types of mockery hurt people. if i had a dime for every time a non immigrant person took offense on my behalf and tried to tell me how i should act or react, i'd be sitting on a mountain of dimes.

no, it's not. the OP interpretation of the facts don't really change the facts: clips of racist jokes went viral and people were offended over it, not necessarily over how vergara felt but about the overt racism. as someone politely explained to u (and u were rude as fuck to them), the target of a racist joke being fine with it does not make the joke any less racist.

no one fucking cares if you see it or not though? plenty of latinos who have their accents mocked see it as harmful. making "lol can't understand anything u say because u have an accent" jokes is harmful. joking someone with a heavy latino accent "can't speak english is harmful". your own personal feeling over those things being harmful or not are irrelevant.

It’s not a “clip”. Several videos of Ellen making fun of Sofia’s accent have been going viral. Sofia chose a random one to RT and say she was not offended by. Ppl are criticizing Ellen’s pattern of behavior, not a single instance where she laughed over Sofia’s accent. There are interviews from as far back as 2010 where Sofia’s “funny accent” is the butt of the jokes, commercials they’re starred in together etc

Your niece’s story is horrifying. I get that Black parents don’t have optimal choices for what kind of neighborhoods and schools they get to choose, but so many middle- and upper-class Black people raise their kids in these fucked up predominantly white environments. These Black kids then develop terrible complexes that other Black people (who were NOT raised around white people) need to deal with later on in life. I hate it all.

but people do have the right to get annoyed at yet another famous asshole making fun of their non-americanized accents thus normalizing it for all their little asshole fans who will then go on to think having what they perceive to be an accent is laughable and worth making someone feel like shit for. that's allowed, right? right? just wondering what your opinion is on that. because yes, this particular post is about sofia being ok with this white bitch putting sofia in her place for a joke, you're right on that one, she can feel how she wants to feel, but the real issue is deeper. it's not like this begins and ends with sofia and ellen, no matter how much you seem to want that.
