I can’t put my finger on it, because they were funny together, but maybe it was a lack of romantic chemistry? The movie itself, though, was more focused on the funny and zany antics, than the romance.

They forgot Ruffalo/Tree lady in Age of Ultron. Not only did they not have chemistry, but it was so poorly written that when other characters weren’t fighting bad guys, they were practically forced to say “Natasha and hulk are a couple, they are an awesome couple and everyone should ship them”.
