Nah. If I remember correctly, his character was a cocky little shit who constantly thought he was as good as or better than the doctors. So it was an accident brought on by his hubris. I think he may have been moving too fast or something. I just remember the sound they used in the scene and all the "bitch, are you fucking serious" looks his colleagues gave him.

(I talked to my friend who is a doctor and she said it could happen, but there's a lot of precautions taken so it doesn't and I was like, "Thanks! That doesn't make me feel better.")
