The Supreme Court just issued a monumental ruling on LGBTQ rights. Good can still prevail in America. https://t.co/EfqO3yFm3F - Misha Collins (@mishacollins) June 15, 2020
This is a surprisingly decent opinion written by Gorsuch.
The gist of the reasoning behind the Court’s decision is that discrimination based on sexual orientation and/or gender id/presentation is necessarily discrimination based on sex, because the gay men and the trans woman who were fired would not have been fired for dating men/presenting as feminine, if they were biologically female.
Imo it sets a fair precedent and hopefully courts will use it to rule against the new Trump rule about discrimination in healthcare.
this is undoubtedly wonderful, and i'll take any good news i can get this week (and it's only monday)... but until we do away with at will employment transphobic employers will continue to find ways to dismiss trans men and women.
Yeah..."at will" can be as ridiculous as "they weren't a good fit for the company culture" which is how you end up with whole tech companies full of white dude-bros (I'm looking at you, Silicon Valley).
Trump on the LGBT ruling: "They've ruled. I've read the decision. And some people were surprised. But they've ruled and we live with their decision. That's what it's all about. We live with the decision of the Supreme Court. Very powerful. A very powerful decision, actually." - Daniel Dale (@ddale8) June 15, 2020
You know in Zootopia Nick tells Judy that if she wants to sound smarter she can answer a question with a question before answering the question? Trump is like that, except he thinks repeating words that he already said somehow makes all the words he said sound smarter.
Remember when Taylor used pride month to promote her single, donated $0 of the proceeds and then went back to her regularly scheduled silence? Nice to hear from her!
