Bandom Fandom is a MESS right now and people are starting drama because bands aren't doing "enough" with their platform. People needed to be rightfully dragged so, but I also feel like just because people aren't postings something all day everyday about what is going on doesn't make them horrible people, or just because someone is posting something everyday doesn't make them an ally to the cause.
like one of my favourite bands ended up donating 16k to George Floyd Memorial Fund, and their fans are mad because somehow that isn't enough because they aren't posting every five minutes about things going on.
I haven’t seen that, but a lot of bands post black squares (like my namesake, We Are Scientists that I haven’t supported in years) or people denying to acknowledge / learn that their faves have problematic pasts because they did such great work by opening dialogue about what’s going on
the day I finally snap and start handling fans that love to coddle white men for doing the absolute least the way that I want to. like looking at chris evans' mentions will make you feel feral but i appreciated this person lmao
It’s great that you’re using your social presence to get people to sign petitions and donate. I’m not going to thank you because as a white privileged male this is what you should be doing. - ً (@randomcevans) June 3, 2020
I almost went back on my twitter to hand a 30 y/o sorta friend a new asshole for coddling her 30/40 something faves but this tweet is wonderfully worded and I might use it next time I lurk someone and decide to go off of lurking lol
good. the scene back in the day was some racistass shit and im always a lil ashamed om my mcr days. i hope he donated a good amount bc the merch newsletter never lets up.
mte, i was thinking about that as i made this post, like wow we really have come a long way. we wouldn't have ANY statements like this if anti-black police brutality was this hot in the 00s
yes baby! so thankful for ontd for basically singlehandedly raising me and lifting me out of my racist as af tweemo thinking like fuck me im so sorry. for all of us.
Looks like a fan might’ve gotten Gerard to speak up? Lindsey responded to this
You are right. We need to show up. Going to protests and donating is great but we can always do more. we haven’t used our platforms which is imperative, and I’m sorry that this silence has caused you even more pain. I will fix that - Lindsey Way (@lynzway) June 2, 2020
doing what’s right because it’s right and not just for optics is how we live- BUT I’m listening and hearing that donating in silence is great but a missed opportunity to spread awareness and support. I agree with that - Lindsey Way (@lynzway) June 2, 2020
There’s another thread explaining why she doesn’t post receipts about how much they’ve donated (feels like virtue signaling?) but people also explained why it’s important (to encourage other rich celebs)
I’m the one that brought up her history. I’m really happy to see her standing up, and demanding that her partner be vocal as well. But, I’m still going to side eye the shit out of her. This woman was willing to be extremely complacent for money, and that makes me uncomfortable. She’s righting her wrong, and all we can hope for is progress, and for people to become motivated allies. So, we’re good LYN-Z...🤜🏽
