Knowing a few adults who were "graduates" from the foster care system it's a very good thing what she's doing. While some states try to have some transitional programs often these kids are kicked to the curb, all assistance stops, and they are forced to fend for themselves at 18. No one gives a damn about the teenage kids unless it's someone purely trying to get a check, and unfortunately sexual abuse runs rampant with that age group. Wishing Sia and her new family all the best.

I don't want to have kids myself, but I keep thinking about fostering and then adopting (whatever is more beneficial to the child) older children in the foster system. Teenagers or just the ones who are more likely to get stuck in the system.

Same, I love the ages 12+, and they tend to get neglected. I worry I’ll never make enough though to give kids a good quality of life. I can barely keep myself alive paycheck to paycheck 😞

Depending on where you live and the child's mental health or medical conditions, the pay you receive for caring for the child could be very high. I have seen people getting paid $3k-4k PER CHILD. Now I'm not saying you should foster and adopt kids just to make money for yourself, but if the sincere interest is there and your financial situation is the only issue, it could still work out. (I work in the foster care field.)

I'm starting to think about this as well but I feel a bit unsure as far as what it all entails - I'd love to read up on adoption if others have experience. I feel like this was my last year to consider having kids and then COVID happened and obviously has me worried about what future I would be bringing a child in to (especially knowing so many others need parents). I'm 36 which is fine for a few more years, but my husband is 10 years older and I don't want to be one of those couples that ONTD judges with an old man daddy... lol...

That's amazing. I work in the system and teenagers are hardest to place by far. Everyone wants the cute cuddly babies and toddlers but not the baggage and years of trauma, abuse, and bs the teens have had to experience. It warms my heart that these teens got to be adopted and have a family. Wishing them well.

That's really cool. You don't stop needing parents just because you're legally an adult.

Sia is amazing for finding a family this way. Not every family needs to be "and baby makes three". How very lovely and uplifting.
