Ugly Betty was fantastic; she more than deserved that award. I'm glad she got all of those toxic people out of her life.

It must be hard to be the lead in a comedy in that sense. I feel like supporting characters often become the scene stealers. I really, really love Ugly Betty and America Ferrera but Betty was never my fave (but she's more unique lead than many other characters). I'm glad she's been able to overcome those narratives because my gosh, the shit that gets said about her character on Superstore and how people hate Amy/she's boring/etc. is rough.

The main character in comedies is usually more earnest and has to play the 'straight man' whereas the side characters can be wacky and silly, which draws a lot of attention in fans.

I don’t remember who else was nominated that year but I remember how hard Ugly Bette hit at that time and it was a big show everybody was excited about. She was supposed to be funny not dark. She succeeded in this role.

I went and looked it up because I was curious and it was Tina Fey for 30 Rock, Felicity Huffman for Desperate Housewives, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Old Christine and Mary-Louise Parker for Weeds. So, I can get why she was insecure because those are all actresses with established careers and connections. But I think she earned that Emmy. She anchored Ugly Betty and was a bright, fully realized character.

Geez that was a strong year. No wonder she felt that way. Ugly Betty beside its campness felt very fresh at that time and it was actually really funny with really strong characters. They also had a great momentum so I think she deserved it.
