Didn't he say 3-4 years ago that he "wasn't gay anymore"? I remember googling stuff about him after rewatching Kennedy's hilarious snatch game. Either way, RIP.

I feel like Richard's a product of his time and didn't know how to find an inner peace. Especially being from the south as a black man in 40s and 50s. Not to excuse his denouncement, just that I'm not sure he ever knew how to reconcile. Which is a huge burden, especially as a gospel singer. Church music circles aren't known for their tolerance.
