To me it looks generic & uninspired, so perhaps I'm the one with odd taste.

it's actually so highly specific to pete davidson's life I am surprised to hear you say that

I'm watching this for Maude's 3 minutes of screentime.

I really liked this movie or at least the version I saw idk how it’s changed. it’s not immune to Apatow’s shortcomings [Spoiler (click to open)] like being 40 minutes too long, and underwritten female characters but it was charming and surprisingly optimistic.

But this trailer completely hides Marisa Tomei who gives the best fucking performance in the movie. She is seriously wonderful in this.

I love Marisa Tomei and she's so great even in shitty movies. I'm interested to see what Pete does with this role because it's so close to being autobiographical and he also co-wrote the screenplay.

I liked Pete in this movie. Obviously a lot of it is about arrested development, and grappling with loss and mental illness. It doesn’t deal with it in the neatest or most satisfying way but it’s very obviously about one person’s journey.

And Marisa is just so good. Her and Bill Burr are sweet together

I so agree and wonder if she could get a best supporting nod?

I'm always confused by these movies where the premises are so solidly based on the lead actor's real life but are also... totally different from their real life? idk it's like a fantasy of what pete davidson's life would have been like if he hadn't gotten into comedy? is this him trying to process his grief for his dad as an adult by pretending he followed in his footsteps by doing this movie? idk. am i looking too far into this? absolutely.

Yeah from the trailer the movie seems like a cathartic way to deal with his demons while getting mentorship from a comedy powerhouse who he trusts and who adores him and wants him to succeed.

I read these types of movies as image rehab that gains someone public sympathy even though they're kind of a dirtbag.
